Indian Rescue Academy: Proven in Field, Trusted in Crisis. Disaster Rescue and Emergency Response Training in India

India’s leading operational training academy for specialized disaster response and tactical rescue.

2014
COMMAND. JUDGEMENT. EXECUTION.
Indian Rescue Academy prepares personnel to assess hazard, operate within a command structure, exercise judgement under pressure, and execute technical rescue safely across complex environments.
Programmes are built around operational conditions rather than classroom ideals — degraded visibility, changing environments, equipment constraints, casualty management, and coordinated team action under command.
TRAIN FOR THE RISK YOUR TEAM ACTUALLY FACES.
Develop capability for height, rope, confined-space and advanced technical rescue operations.
Build practical capability for flood, swift-water, rescue-boat, jet ski and diving operations.
Prepare teams for complex technical environments requiring specialist procedures, equipment and coordination.
Develop casualty assessment, stabilisation, triage and emergency medical response capability.

TRAINERS ON ROLL
FROM NATIONAL FORCES TO LOCAL RESPONDERS.
IRA trains specialized forces, airport emergency teams, and community responders for the environments they are expected to face. It serves as a nodal training institution for NDRF, SDRF, Central and State Police, Fire and Rescue Organizations, Civil Defense, and Aviation.
OPERATIONAL EXPERIENCE BEYOND THE TRAINING GROUND.
IRA has supported government and response agencies during major floods, cyclones, public gatherings and emergency operations.
CYCLONE RESPONSE
Operated in support of SDRF teams during Cyclone Phailin, Cyclone Hudhud.
GODAVARI & KRISHNA PUSHKARAMS
Felicitated by Shri Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, for exemplary services rendered during the Godavari and Krishna Pushkarams.
CHENNAI FLOODS
Operated in support of Coastal Police teams during the Chennai flood response.
KERALA FLOODS
A 75-member team led by 8 ITUS trainers was deployed during the Kerala floods.
CYCLONE GAJA
Placed on red alert in Tamil Nadu alongside TNDRF teams during Cyclone Gaja.
ATAL SETU RESCUE TEAM
Currently operating Atal Setu Water Rescue Team upto 2031.
MAHA KUMBH MELA
Teams were deployed with UP Police ATS during Maha Kumbh Mela 2025.
WHAT REAL INCIDENTS TEACH US.
A closer look at major emergencies, the challenges they exposed, and the capabilities that can strengthen future response.
KERALA FLOODS
When rescue demand exceeded formal capacity, local boat operators became a critical part of the response.
CHAMOLI DISASTER
A fast-moving mountain disaster tested early warning, evacuation and confined-space rescue capability.
LG POLYMERS GAS LEAK
A hazardous chemical release showed why specialist response must be available close to the risk.
SILKYARA TUNNEL
A 16-day rescue showed how access, redundancy and specialist techniques shape underground operations.
WHAT MAKES A RESPONDER READY.
Technical skill is only one part of operational readiness. IRA training also addresses the physiological, command and human factors that influence performance under pressure.

HEAT STRESS IN PPE
Encapsulating PPE can restrict cooling, allowing heat to build rapidly during physical work. Training must account for work-rest cycles and safe wear time.

COLD WATER SHOCK
The first danger after sudden immersion is not hypothermia. An involuntary gasp and rapid loss of swimming ability can occur much earlier.

CONTINUOUS SIZE-UP
Operational assessment does not end after arrival. Hazards, casualties, resources and conditions must be reassessed continuously.

WHY RESCUERS BECOME CASUALTIES
Underestimating hazards, overestimating capability and fixation on the casualty can turn a responder into a second victim.
